Hounds Split on Opening Day of Knights Invitational at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening day of the Knights Invitational being hosted by Neumann University.

The Greyhounds opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Salisbury (Md.) University by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-23. Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher led the squad with 13 kills to go along with 12 digs while junior middle blocker Erin Tiger added eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick and freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic each had a pair of service aces while freshman middle blocker Madi Anslow and graduate student Jackie Finnegan both had two blocks.

Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman had 22 assists to go along with a pair of service aces and four digs while senior libero Jean Markovic contributed a team-high 14 digs.

The Blue and Grey then swept Ursinus College 25-20, 25-16, 25-18. Zacher once again led the squad with 13 kills to go with 15 digs while Tiger contributed seven kills and three blocks in the victory. Junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer had six kills and five digs for the Hounds while Gieryic contributed four kills.

Kauffman ran the offense with 36 assists to go along with three kills, two service aces and a pair of digs while Markovic added 23 digs. Senior defensive specialist Ashton Galasso and sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro both had five digs against the Bears while Anslow and Frick each added two kills.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, September 16 in the second day of the Neumann Knights Invitational with a match versus the host school beginning at 10:00 a.m.
