Hounds Win Pair of 5-Set Matches on 2nd Day of Neumann Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept a pair of matches on the second day of the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann University Saturday, winning both contests in five sets.

The Greyhounds defeated the host Knights in the opening match of the day by scores of 14-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-13, 17-15. Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, paced the Hounds with 16 kills, 10 digs and two service aces in the opener while junior middle blocker Erin Tiger had 12 kills and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker Madi Anslow contributed three kills and five blocks while freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick, junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer and freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic all had two kills.

Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman controlled the Moravian offense with 33 assists to go along with nine digs, three service aces and a pair of blocks while senior libero Jean Markovic led the Hounds with 30 digs.

Moravian finished the tournament versus Widener University and defeated the Pride 27-25, 13-25, 17-25, 25-14, 15-13. Zacher led the Hounds with a career-high 27 kills, the third most in a five-set match in school history on a school record 72 attack attempts in the final match to go along with 13 digs, two service aces and a pair of assists while Frick contributed 14 kills and five digs. Tiger posted 11 kills, two blocks and a pair of assists while Gieryic and Anslow each had three kills with Anslow adding three digs and Gieryic posting two digs.

Kauffman recorded 51 assists in the victory to go along with five digs and a service ace while Markovic contributed 23 digs, a pair of service aces and two assists. Junior defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin added 11 digs for the Blue and Grey in the team's third consecutive victory.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 19 when the Hounds travel to Farmingdale State (N.Y.) College for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
