Greyhounds Split Landmark Conference Tri-Match at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad began its 2017 Landmark Conference season by splitting a tri-match at Elizabethtown College with No. 13 Juniata College Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds opened the day with a 26-24, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22 victory over the host Blue Jays. Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher paced the Blue and Grey with 24 kills to go with eight digs and a pair of assists while sophomore outside hitter Brooke Kusmider had 10 kills in the victory. Freshman middle blocker Madi Anslow added eight kills and three blocks while junior middle blocker Erin Tiger had six kills, six blocks and three digs for Moravian.

Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman controlled the Greyhounds' offense with 42 assists to go with four digs, two kills and a pair of blocks while senior libero Jean Markovic had a team-high 25 digs to go along with a pair of assists. Freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick had four kills and four digs while freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic added three blocks and a pair of kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro contributed eight digs and two assists while junior defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin had a pair of digs.

Moravian dropped its second match of the day to the Eagles by set scores of 25-14, 25-8, 22-25, 25-20. Zacher had a team-high 11 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Also contributing double figures in kills was Kusmider with 10 and she also added a service ace. Three Hounds, Anslow, graduate student middle blocker Jackie Finnegan, and Tiger each added four kills each to go with three blocks, two blocks and a block respectively. Frick, Gieryic, and Kauffman also contributed a kill. Kauffman recorded 32 assists while Markovic tallied 19 digs in the contest and Szaro had five digs.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, October 6 in a non-conference match at Texas Lutheran University beginning at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
