Kauffman Reaches 2,000 Assists as Hounds Split Matches at Wilkes Colonel Clash

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening day of the Wilkes University Colonel Clash Friday.

In the opening match of the day, the Greyhounds defeated Keystone College, 25-22, 25-15, 25-19, as sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman became the seventh player in school history to reach 2,000 career assists with 30 assists in the victory. Kauffman also had five digs and a pair of service aces. Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher led Moravian with 16 kills and four service aces to go with nine digs while junior middle hitter Erin Tiger had seven kills and four blocks. Zacher moved into sixth in school history with 153 career service aces while Tiger surpassed 150 blocks for her career.

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Kusmider contributed six kills and four digs while freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick had four kills, seven digs and a pair of service aces. Freshman middle hitter Madi Anslow  added three kills while senior libero Jean Makovic led the Greyhounds with 11 digs to go with three assists. Freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had three service aces for the Blue and Grey while sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had three digs.

Moravian, now 13-13 on the season, dropped its second match of the evening, falling to Kean (N.J.) University 25-11, 25-18, 24-26, 25-13. Zacher added another to 16 kills to go with eight digs while Tiger had eight kills and a pair of digs. Anslow contributed six kills while Kusmider had four kills and five digs.

Kauffman ran the offense with 25 assists as she moved into sixth in school history with 2,031 assists, and Kauffman added eight digs. Markovic led the Blue and Grey with 16 digs while Szaro added five digs and five assists. Frick contributed three digs and a pair of kills while junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer and junior defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin each had a pair of digs.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action in the second day of the Wilkes Colonel Clash with matches versus SUNY Morrisville at 12:00 p.m. and the host Colonels at 2:00 p.m.
