Hounds Sweep Pair of Five-Set Matches at Wilkes Colonel Clash

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept a pair of five-set matches on the second day of the Wilkes University Colonel Clash.

The Hounds, now 15-13 on the fall, opened the day playing Morrisville State, and the Blue and Grey dropped the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-20 before rallying and taking the final three sets 25-16, 25-23, 22-20 to earn the victory. Senior outside hitter Mary Zacher led the squad with 27 kills to go with ten digs and a pair of service aces while junior middle hitter Erin Tiger added 19 kills, three blocks and two digs.

Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman recorded 64 assists to go with eight digs while senior libero Jean Markovic led the squad with 22 digs. Freshman middle hitter Madi Anslow contributed six kills, four digs and three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Brooke Kusmider and freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick each registered five kills with Kusmider adding four digs and Frick having five digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had 15 digs while junior defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin added six digs.

The Greyhounds finished the tournament by defeating the host Colonels, 25-16, 16-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-7. Zacher once again led the way for Moravian with 18 kills, 16 digs and three assists while Tiger contributed nine kills, four blocks and a trio of digs. Anslow had seven kills in the win while Kusmider added five kills.

Kauffman had 40 assists to pace the offense as she moved into fifth in school history with 2,135 assists, and she added three kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces. Markovic registered a team-high 31 digs with three assists while Szaro contributed five digs and two service aces. Frick added another three kills, two digs and two service aces while graduate student middle hitter Jackie Finnegan had two kills and junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer added three digs.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, October 24 in a non-conference match at Arcadia University beginning at 7:00 p.m.
