Hounds Sweep Opening Day Action in Cougar Classic at Misericordia University

DALLAS, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept a pair of matches on the opening day of action at the Cougar Clash being hosted by Misericordia University.

The Greyhounds opened the tournament by defeating Pitt-Bradford – 25-9, 26-24, 25-19. Freshman middle blocker Renee Mapa led the way with nine kills while senior middle blocker Erin Tiger had seven kills and a pair of blocks. Freshman opposite hitter Sela Herber contributed six kills while freshman outside hitter Katie Hudson added five kills and a pair of digs.

Junior setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Blue and Grey's offense with 35 assists to go with five service aces and four kills while freshman libero Ally Locy had a team high 18 digs versus Pitt-Bradford. Freshman outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach and senior outside hitter Brooke Kusmider each had two kills with Dreisbach adding six digs and Kusmider having four digs.

The Hounds then swept the College of St. Elizabeth (N.J.) 25-19, 25-15, 25-10 in their second match of the evening. Tiger had another seven kills to go with four service aces and a block while Dreisbach added four kills and five service aces.

Sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Pavlinsky also had four service aces while Kauffman, senior outside hitter Rachel Farmer and sophomore opposite hitter Emerson Gieryic each had a pair of service aces with Moravian recording 21 saves in the match. Kauffman also had 11 assists and eight digs while Farmer led the squad with 10 digs to go along with a pair of digs. Freshman middle blocker Paige Kowalski contributed three kills and a pair of digs while Mapa had two kills.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 8 in the second day of the Cougar Clash with matches versus Wilson College at 1:00 p.m. and host Misericordia at 3:00 p.m.
