Moravian Opens Landmark Conference Season with Tough Losses to Catholic & Nationally-Ranked Juniata

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team dropped its opening two matches of the 2018 Landmark Conference season, falling to The Catholic University of American and No. 6 Juniata College by 3-0 scores in a Landmark Quad Match at Susquehanna University Saturday.

The Greyhounds began the conference slate by falling to the Cardinals by set scores of 28-26, 25-19, 25-18. Senior middle blocker Erin Tiger and senior outside hitter Brooke Kusmider each had nine kills for the Hounds with Tiger adding a pair of blocks and Kusmider contributing 14 digs. Freshman middle blocker Renee Mapa had seven kills and two blocks while freshman right side hitter Sela Herber added four kills and two blocks.

Junior setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Moravian offense with 33 assists to go with five digs while freshman outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach contributed three kills and five digs. Freshman outside hitter Katie Hudson also had three kills while freshman libero Ally Locy had six digs and junior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro added five digs.

In the second match of the day, the Blue and Grey pushed the Eagles to need extra points in the first set before falling 26-24, 25-10, 25-23. Tiger led Moravian with eight kills to go with three digs while Kusmider contributed four kills and six digs. Hudson had three kills while Mapa and Dreisbach each had a pair of kills with Mapa contributing three blocks and Dreisbach adding five digs.

Kauffman added another 20 assists to go with three digs and a pair of kills while sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Pavlinsky had eight digs. Herber added three digs in the contest.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, October 3 when the squad hosts Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference match beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
