Greyhounds Top Penn State Berks in Four Sets to Finish Non-Conference Slate

READING, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win at Penn State Berks Tuesday evening in the Greyhounds' final non-conference match of the 2018 season.

The first set was tied at 4-4 before the Lions took a four point lead. The Hounds would respond and take an 18-16 lead before Penn State Berks rallied for the 25-23 set win. Freshman outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach and senior middle blocker Erin Tiger served Moravian to an early 9-5 lead in the second set for the Lions tied it at 10-10. The Blue and Grey would slowly pull away and capture the set 25-19 to even the match at 1-1.

Freshman right side hitter Sela Herber gave the Greyhounds a quick 4-0 lead in the second set while Tiger pushed the advantage to 10-2 at the service line. Moravian would take the set 25-15 to move ahead, 2-1. The Hounds trailed early again in the fourth set until Tiger took to the service line and helped by three service aces, served Moravian to a 10-4 lead. The Lions would respond and take a 17-16 lead. Tiger headed back to the service line again and pushed the Greyhounds to a 23-17 lead before Moravian captured the set 25-18 to win the contest.

Tiger had 12 kills to go with seven service aces, five digs and four blocks to lead the Hounds, and she moved into tenth in school history with 1,119 kills and a tie for ninth in blocks with 233 in her career. Senior outside hitter Brooke Kusmider also had 12 kills to go with 13 digs while Herber continued seven kills and four digs.

Junior setter Victoria Kauffman paced the offense with 40 assists to go with nine digs, three service aces and two blocks while freshman libero Ally Locy added 13 digs. Freshman right side hitter Jess Appleton contributed six kills and a pair of blocks while sophomore right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had four kills.

Dreisbach and senior outside hitter Rachel Farmer both had three kills with Dreisbach adding nine digs while junior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had six digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Jasmine Pavlinsky contributed five digs and a pair of service aces.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to close out the regular season on Saturday, October 27 when the squad hosts a Landmark Conference quad match. Moravian will play Elizabethtown College at 11:00 a.m. before taking on Goucher College at 6:30 p.m. with Senior Day before the contest.
