Hounds Fall Twice on Opening Evening of Neumann Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team fell twice by the final of 3-0 on the opening evening of the Neumann University Knights Invitational Friday as the Greyhounds dropped matches to Stockton (N.J.) University and Widener University. 

How It Happened – Stockton Match

  • The Ospreys, who swept the match 25-8, 25-14, 25-13, opened up a 7-0 lead to start the match and led 16-1 before earning the set 25-8
  • Stockton scored the first two points of the second set before the Greyhounds pushed ahead 7-4. The Blue & Grey had an 11-8 lead in the set until a 17-3 run from the Ospreys finished the game
  • Moravian had an early 4-2 lead in the final set before Stockton moved in front. The Hounds closed within a point at 9-8 but the Ospreys would go onto win the set 25-13
  • Junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer and sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley each had three kills to lead the Blue & Grey in the match with Krasley adding a pair of digs
  • Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan added a pair of kills while junior middle blocker Grace Silfani had two blocks
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos contributed five assists and five digs while senior libero Gabby Mancini recorded a team-high 14 digs to go with a pair of service aces
  • Freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez and freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo each had three service aces and five digs while Ally Plitnick contributed five digs for the Hounds 

How It Happened – Widener Match

  • The Pride, who took the match 25-20, 25-12, 25-18, trailed the Blue and Grey 7-5 in the opening set before scoring four straight points and nine of 10 to open a 14-8 edge. The Greyhounds closed within 21-18 but Widener would take the set
  • The Pride was in control for the entire second set, and they broke open the third set after Moravian had a 7-6 lead
  • Krasley and Melillo led the Hounds with seven kills apiece in the match with Krasley adding four digs while Deegan contributed six kills, three digs and three assists
  • Matos registered 20 assists and six digs while Mancini had a team-high 16 digs and Vasquez posted seven digs
  • Silfani recorded five kills and a pair of blocks while Bauer added two kills and two digs
  • Junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso had four digs while junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow posted three digs
