Greyhounds Sweep Tri-Match at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball squad won two contests in a tri-match at Ramapo College of New Jersey Saturday afternoon, defeating the host Roadrunners, 3-1, and Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0. 

How It Happened – Sarah Lawrence Match

  • The Greyhounds fell behind early to Sarah Lawrence to start the match. Moravian eventually opened a 16-12 lead only to see the Gryphons close within a point at 17-16. The Blue & Grey led 24-20 and would take the first set 25-23
  • Moravian raced out to an 8-0 lead in the second set and posted a 25-9 set victory
  • The Hounds jumped out to an early edge in the third set at 9-3 before recording a 25-11 set win to complete the sweep
  • Junior right side hitter Sophie Bauer led the Greyhounds with 14 kills to go with three digs in the set while junior middle blocker Grace Silfani, sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley and sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan each recorded six kills with Silfani adding four digs and Krasley contributed two digs and two blocks
  • Senior setter Natalie Matos race Moravian's offense with 25 assists, and she added eight digs and four kills while senior libero Gabby Mancini had 11 digs and three assists and junior defensive specialist Emily Szy added 10 digs and five service aces
  • Junior middle blocker Autumn Marerro posted four digs, three kills and two blocks while junior defensive specialist Kat DeYesso had nine digs and sophomore setter Emily Solomon added five digs 

How It Happened – Ramapo Match

  • The Greyhounds began the first set with Ramapo by taking a 5-1 lead. The Roadrunners answered and had a 10-7 edge. The teams continued to trade runs during the set with the Hounds eventually winning 27-25 to begin the contest
  • Ramapo led the entire second set, and the Roadrunners were up by as many as seven points. Moravian made it close late in the game as Ramapo won 25-22 to even the contest at 1-1
  • The Roadrunners were leading the third set 8-6 when the Blue & Grey ran off five straight points. Ramapo knotted the score at 13-13 before the Greyhounds took the lead for good on the way to capturing the set 25-19
  • Ramapo had another early advantage in the fourth set at 5-2. Moravian scored the next eight points and led the rest of the way to garner a 25-11 set victory to capture the match
  • Bauer once again led the Greyhounds with 17 kills in the match to go with three digs while Krasley contributed 12 kills and two digs and Deegan recorded 11 kills
  • Matos picked up 42 assists, 19 digs, five service aces and three kills while Mancini posted 26 digs, six assists and a pair of service aces
  • Silfani and freshman outside hitter Caroline Melillo both had four kills with Silfani adding two service aces and two digs while Marerro had three kills, two digs and a pair of service aces
  • Szy contributed 13 digs while freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez recorded 11 digs and junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow had 10 digs
