Hughes Selected as Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Junior Sarah Hughes of the Moravian College women's cross country team has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance over the weekend.

This past Saturday Hughes competed in the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational run at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania where she posted a stellar time of 23:16. The time was a new personal best for any 6,000 meter course, and it placed Hughes 11th overall of 163 runners in the race on the same course that will be used to run the NCAA Regional race in November.

"Sarah is off to an incredible start this year," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Her workouts have been leaps and bounds ahead of where she's been in previous years, and other check points such as our early season time trial, and our first few meets show she's on another level from what she has ever been before.  She's had well over a year without any hiccups in her training, and works as hard as anyone, so in that respect it's no surprise to see her ascend and succeed like she has thus far.  She PR'd on an even tougher course than last year's course at Dickinson so it's a really encouraging sign not only for the cross season, but headed into track as well."

Moravian is scheduled to run at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, October 2 hosted by Lehigh University.
