Women Finish First at Moravian Invitational Friday Evening

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's cross country squad hosted the Moravian Invitational Friday evening at Bicentennial Park in East Allen Township on the boarder of Bethlehem and Northampton.

It was the first regular season home meet for the Greyhounds in over 20 years, and the Greyhounds finished first of six teams.

Senior Meg Brockett placed first in the women's race, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 22:05.06, the 14th fastest time in school history, to lead the 73-runner field. The Greyhounds placed three runners in the top five with senior Sarah Hughes finishing third in 22:45.46 and freshman Katie Mayer taking fourth in 23:48.76. The freshmen duo of Carly Danoski and Ashley Rohrer finished in 11th and 12th in times of 24:23.34 and 24:23.95 to give Moravian a team score of 31 points as the Blue and Grey finished nine points ahead of rival Muhlenberg College.

The Greyhounds had nine other runners in the race including three more in the top 20 with senior Larissa Strycharz in 17th in 24:50.98, freshman Jane Burgoyne finishing 18th in a time of 25:30.86, and sophomore Alyssa Limbaugh in 19th at 25:31.45. Also running for Moravian were freshman Marlee Hornbaker, who had a time of 26:24.95, freshman Rachel Mikols, who ran 26:29.21, freshman Shayne McNally, who posted a time of 26:57.24, freshman Alyssa Ullman, who ran 27:26.07, junior Kirsten Lebo, who had a time of 27:38.24, and junior Jillian Troisi, who ran 29:50.22.

"Our main goal with the women was to do a better job of marking runners from some other teams, which I thought we did today," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We raced well as opposed to just chasing a time, although as a product of that we picked up a ton of PRs with our freshmen, Alyssa Limbaugh, and Larissa Strycharz. We picked up a win too, which is great, so all around it was a good day."

The Greyhounds have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, October 1 in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University.
