Brocketts Earns Third Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honor

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Meg Brockett has earned her third Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor of the fall for her performance last week.

Brockett led the Greyhounds to a 21st place finish of 42 teams in the Women's Brown Race at the annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. She ran a school record time of 21:06, besting the old school mark of 21:26 set by Heather McGarvie, on the 6,000-meter course as she placed fifth of 373 runners in the race. It was a career-best time by 46 seconds by Brockett, and it also shaved 38 seconds off of the previously listed Landmark Conference record of 21:44.

"We knew she was capable of something quick with the way her workouts were going," commented Head Coach Jessie Baumann. "Both Meg and Sarah (Huhges) had an incredible 400m workout on Monday closing their last one in under 75 seconds so I knew then that she was acclimated to handle the fast pace the leaders were likely going to go out in on Saturday, and she did. As I told her after the race, Saturday changed the conversation we're having and gave us a new focus for what's a realistic goal this season. She was the 4th fastest D3 runner in the entire meet, which included numerous ranked D3 teams, so it was an incredible day for Meg and very encouraging for what the next six weeks have in store."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 8 in the DeSales University Invitational in Center Valley.
