Gilbert Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Grace Gilbert '21 honored at the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College freshman Grace Gilbert has been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend.

Gilbert helped the Greyhounds finish first at the Juniata College Invitational this past Saturday as she finished second of the 58 runners in the race in a time of 24:38.10 on the 6,000-meter course in Huntington. The race was held on the same course that will be used in late October for the 2017 Landmark Conference Championships.

"Grace had some small issues with her knee this week and was a little under the weather later on Friday when we were traveling so we weren't quite sure what to expect from her, but she wound up running a great race," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She was patient early on a difficult course and then was assertive when she needed to be. Her workouts have been improving exponentially and it's obvious she's gaining more confidence in the three weeks she's been here at Moravian. Both she and Katie (Mayer) have been pushing each other really well in workouts and races thus far, and I think they can both have incredibly successful seasons. We're hoping to get them both under 23:00 when we run at Paul Short in a few weeks."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, September 29 when the squad runs in the annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus in Bethlehem.
