Katie Mayer named Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Junior Katie Mayer has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Mayer won the 6,000-meter race at the Moravian/Cedar Crest Invitational run Friday evening at Bicentennial Park in a time of 24:22.5 to lead the 80 runners in the race.

"Katie had a hiccup in her summer training so we've been discussing patience and persistence to get her back to where we both want her," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "Friday mimicked her freshman year where at the same meet she started to have a breakthrough. Her workouts have been improving a lot the last week, and then on Friday was a good day where she took control of the race from the gun and ground out a victory by herself for 6k. She's getting back to her old self and as long as she has no more setbacks, she'll be on track to have her best XC season yet."

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 29 when the team competes in the annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus in south Bethlehem.
