TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University women's cross country squad won the Caslin Classic hosted by Goucher College Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds scored 15 points, the lowest score possible in a cross country meet, while Harford Community College was second with 59 points. There were four scoring teams and four additional schools with competitors but not enough to earn a team score
- Freshman Tara Smurla earned her first collegiate victory, placing first of the 38 runners on the 6,000-meter course in a time of 24:03.5. Sophomore Amber Poniktera finished third in 25:52.2, just edging senior Rachel Byrne, who was fourth in a time of 25:52.3
- Freshman Tori Champagne placed fifth in 25:53.3 while freshman Grace Tirabassi took eighth in 26:41.7 to round out the scorers for Moravian
- The Blue and Grey had six other runners in the meet with everyone finishing in the top 15. Sophomore Rylie Murphy was ninth in 26:56.6 while sophomore Lily Mingora finished tenth in a time of 26:57.2. Freshman Meghan Myers clocked in at 26:57.3 to place 11th while sophomore Rachael Goodman was 12th in 27:15.5, sophomore Ally Meeks took 13th in 27:17.8 and senior Peyton Herbst finished 14th in a time of 27:32.4
- The race was a preview of the course that the Greyhounds will run the 2022 Landmark Conference Championship meet on in three weeks
