Hounds Take Fifth at NCAA DIII Metro Regional with Trio of All-Region Runners

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. --- The Moravian University women's cross country team took fifth place of 28 schools in the 2023 NCAA Division III Metro Regional hosted by Rowan University at Dream Park Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds finished with 142 points while The College of New Jersey won the race with 68 points
  • Sophomore Tara Smurla placed fifth of the 189 runners in a PR time of 22:10.6 to garner All-Region honors. Smurla also qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship by finishing in the top seven not including members of the TCNJ squad that earned an automatic qualifier
  • Junior Amber Poniktera earned All-Region accolades with a 17th place finish in 22:58.4 while junior Rachael Goodman made All-Region with a 24th place finish in a PR time of 23:13.8
  • Freshman Alexis Hockenberry finished 48th in 24:02.6 while freshman Alyssa Hockenberry was four spots back in a PR time of 24:08.7
  • Rounding out the Moravian runners were sophomore Meghan Myers in 57th with a time of 24:23.7 and senior Pia Mazzella DiBosco in 70th place in 24:46.9
