Five Hounds Selected to College Sports Communicators Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University seniors Abby Giamoni, Rachael Goodman and Amber Poniktera and juniors Tara Smurla and Karalyn Vashey have been selected to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country Team for NCAA Division III schools.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University seniors Abby Giamoni, Rachael Goodman and Amber Poniktera and juniors Tara Smurla and Karalyn Vashey have been selected to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Team for NCAA Division III schools.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student and be ranked in the top 50 in the school's region in a track event or have finished in the top 50 at the NCAA Division III cross country regional for the program.
By making the All-District Team, the group is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CSC Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced Tuesday, July 15. Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®.
Giamoni, a health sciences/pre-occupational therapy major with a 3.75 grade-point average, was fifth in the Metro Region in the 400-meter dash outdoors in 56.64 seconds, eighth in the 200-meter dash outdoors in 25.26 seconds, 20th in the 100-meter dash outdoors in 12.68 seconds, fifth in the 4x100-meter relay outdoors in 48.62 seconds, sixth in the 4x400-meter relay outdoors in 403.62, ninth in the 60-meter dash indoors in 7.88 seconds, fourth in the 200-meter dash indoors in 25.54 seconds, second in the 400-meter dash indoors in 57.84 seconds and sixth in the 4x400-meter dash indoors in 4:10.11. Giamoni was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2024 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships, and she was a 15-time Landmark All-Conference Honoree with sixth Landmark Conference titles and First Team selections, four Second Team honors and five Honorable Mention selections. Giamoni has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List seven times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a six-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Goodman, an environmental science major with a 3.93 grade-point average, was 37th in the Metro Region Cross Country Championships in a time of 23:45.2, and she was 28th in the 3,000-meter run indoors in 1056.18, 44th in the mile indoors in 5:3514, 31st in the 5,000-meter run indoors in 19:48.13, 31st in the 1,500-meter run outdoors in 4:58.80, 20th in the 5,000-meter run outdoors in 18:31.00 and second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:22.33. Goodman earned a spot on the 2023 Landmark All-Conference Women's Cross Country First Team, and she made the 2024 Landmark All-Conference First Team in the distance medley relay in 2024 and the Honorable Mention Team in the steeplechase in 2024 and the distance medley relay in 2025. Goodman has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List eight times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and two-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Poniktera, a health science/pre-physical therapy major with a 3.90 grade-point average, was 27th in the Metro Region Cross Country Championships in a time of 23:25.7 to earn All-Region honors, and she was 12th in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay indoors at 13:11.51, 35th in the 1,500-meter run outdoors in 4:57.93 and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:22.42. Poniktera is a four-time All-Metro Region honoree in cross country, and she has three Landmark All-Conference Second Team selections in cross country to go with two Landmark All-Conference First Team honors, one All-Conference Second Team and two All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades on the track. Poniktera has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List six times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and two-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Smurla, an elementary education and special education major with a 3.59 grade-point average, won the Metro Region Cross Country Championships in a time of 21:40.8 to earn All-Region honors and she was a 2024 NCAA Division III All-American with a 29th finish in 21:37.6. Smurla was first in the region in the 10,000-meter run outdoors in 36:33.52, third in the 5,000-meter run outdoors in 17:35.04, ninth in the 1,500-meter run outdoors at 4:43.37, 12th in the mile indoors in 5:14.42, fourth in the 3,000-meter run indoors in 10:18.34 and first in the 5,000-meter run indoors in 17:39.21. Smurla earned a spot on the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Landmark All-Conference Women's Cross Country First Team as well as the 2022 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, and she is a five-time Landmark Conference Champion on the track, a four-time member of the Landmark All-Conference Second Team and a Landmark Conference Honorable Mention selection once. Smurla has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List three times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll once.
Vashey, an accounting major with a 3.58 grade-point average, was second in the Metro Region in the 20-pound weight throw indoors at 16.57 meters (54-4.5), 19th in the shot put indoors at 11.13 meters (36-6.25), 12th in the hammer throw outdoors at 44.35 meters (145-6), 15th in the shot put outdoors at 11.81 meters (38-9) and 29th in the discus outdoors at 33.14 meters (108-9). Vashey won the 2025 Landmark Conference Indoor Championship in the weight throw, and she was the runner-up in the event in 2024 for Landmark All-Conference Second Team accolades. Vashey has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List three times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll.
