Moravian Drops Two Landmark Conference Games at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team dropped two games at Elizabethtown College Sunday in Landmark Conference action, falling 3-2 and 9-1, as the Greyhounds had their seven-game winning streak stopped in the opener.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning
  • Moravian scored twice in the top of the fifth to move ahead 2-1. Graduate student right fielder Carmine Palummo had an RBI single to tie the contest while sophomore designated hitter Derek Holmes connected on an RBI single as the Hounds took the lead
  • Elizabethtown answered with two runs in the home half of the fifth to retake the lead at 3-2 with the final runs of the game
  • Freshman David Ciaccio went the distance on the mound for the Blue & Grey with six strikeouts 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, and Elizabethtown would score five more times in the third inning and three times in the fifth for all of the scoring for the Blue Jays in the contest
  • The Greyhounds would get on the scoreboard in the top of seventh on a pinch-hit RBI single from freshman David Olsakowski
  • Moravian used five pitchers with senior Kevin Brandt getting the start and recording a pair of strikeouts in 2.2 innings of action. Sophomore Kenny Kuzman had one strikeout in 1.1 innings of work while sophomore AJ Gordon had a pair of strikeouts in 1.1 innings of action and junior Leo Andreoli had one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning

  • Moravian had 11 hits in the doubleheader with Palummo and Holmes each going 3-for-7 with an RBI and Palummo also scored a run
  • Sunday finished a span of six games in just over 53 hours as the squad played Landmark Conference doubleheaders on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
