Olsen & Koch Combine on Shutout as Hounds Blank No. 15 Kean

UNION, N.J. --- The Moravian University baseball squad posted a 5-0 shutout in non-conference action at Kean (N.J.) University Monday afternoon as senior Eddie Olsen and junior Garrison Koch combined on a six-hitter.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior second baseman Chris Pow singled with one out and raced home from second base on an RBI single by junior shortstop Mason Fisher
  • The Blue and Grey added four runs in the top of the sixth to extend the advantage to 5-0. Senior third baseman David Bertolotti drew a two-out walk and moved to third on an error by the Cougars on a bunt from sophomore outfielder Matt Madigan. Senior outfielder Robert Roman connected on a two-RBI single to bring in Bertolotti and Madigan, and Roman moved into scoring position on a double off Pow's bat. Junior catcher Derek Holmes drove in Roman and Pow with a two-RBI single
  • The Hounds' defense made five outstanding plays with Madigan robbing three hits in center field

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian eight hits on the afternoon with Pow going 3-for-5 with a double. Holmes was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Roman had two RBIs and a hit
  • Fisher and Bertolotti each had one hit with Bertolotti scoring once and Fisher driving in a run. Madigan also scored for the Blue and Grey
  • Olsen made the start on the mound and scattered six hits and three walks in 6.1 innings of action to go along with a pair of strikeouts as he improved to 2-2 on the year. Koch posted two strikeouts in the final 2.2 innings of the contest
