Hounds Fall in Landmark Conference Doubleheader at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad fell to host Lycoming College, 5-2 and 6-3, in a Landmark Conference doubleheader Friday to begin the weekend conference series. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The opener was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings with the Greyhounds getting just three hits and the Warriors collecting two hits
  • The Blue & Grey got onto the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Graduate student designated hitter Cole Cherkas led off with a single while freshman third baseman Troy Rabosky was hit by a pitch and freshman shortstop David Vozzo had an infield single on a bunt to load the bases. Freshman catcher Ronnie Werkheiser drew an RBI walk to push Cherkas across the plate. Sophomore right fielder Matt Westcott followed with an RBI groundout as Rabosky scored
  • Lycoming countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2, and the Warriors moved ahead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh
  • Graduate student Aaron Flyte made the start on the mound and recorded four strikeouts in six-plus innings of action. Freshman EJ Youngling and sophomore Wes Griffith each tossed an inning

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game two
  • Lycoming added three runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth frame to build a 6-0 advantage
  • Moravian got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning. Rabosky connected on a one-out, solo home run to left field, his sixth homer of the spring to tie for the team lead. Vozzo followed with a walk and a stolen base before racing home on an RBI single by freshman center fielder Luke Keitsock
  • The Hounds finished off the scoring with a run in the top of the ninth as Keitsock led off with a single and crossed the plate on an RBI squeeze bunt from freshman second baseman Nathan Jones
  • Freshman Andrew Sagrestano pitched the first four innings with one strikeout while sophomore Nick Leonard tossed three innings with a strikeout. Freshman Luke Piripavel finished the contest with a strikeout in one inning of work 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 11 hits in the doubleheader with Cherkas going 3-for-8 with a run
  • Keitsock and senior left fielder Nick Henry both had two hits with Keitsock scoring once and adding an RBI
  • Rabosky added two runs, a homer and an RBI while Westcott had a hit and an RBI
  • Vozzo contributed a hit and a run while sophomore first baseman Wyatt Harrar had one hit for the Hounds
