Greyhounds Rally Past Juniata to Win 2022 Landmark Conference Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey squad rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the first quarter to post a 4-1 victory over visiting Juniata College to open the 2022 Landmark Conference season under the lights on John Makuvek Field Friday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Eagles opened the scoring just nearly four minutes into the contest with a penalty stroke goal. The Greyhounds answered with 1:15 left in the opening period as junior midfielder Sarah Bietka found the cage during a penalty corner off of a pass from senior midfielder Maddie Call to knot the score at 1-1 after 15 minutes of action
  • Moravian took the lead for good in the second quarter as junior forward Bekkah Kehoe knocked in a pass from sophomore forward Sydney Anderson in the 21st minute as the Blue and Grey led 2-1 at the intermission
  • The Hounds pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third quarter when senior midfielder Emily Wells scored off of a pass from junior defender Onalee Long in the 42nd minute
  • Long finished off the scoring with just over two minutes remaining as she knocked in a rebound off of the post on a ball initially shot by Wells

Inside the Numbers

  • Bietka's goal was her first of the season and the seventh of her career while Call registered her fourth assist in 2022 and the tenth of her career
  • Kehoe's tally was her first of the fall and fifth as a Greyhound while Anderson recorded her second assist this year and the fifth of her career
  • Wells upped her season goal total to two with her 15th career goal while Long earned her first goal and second assist of 2022 to push her career totals to two goals and four assists
  • Senior goalie Brooke Wilkinson posted five saves for her 17th career victory
  • Moravian finished the evening with a 14-8 advantage in shots while Juniata held an 11-8 in penalty corners
