Jakobsen’s Overtime Goal Lifts Moravian Past Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey team topped host Elizabethtown College, 4-3 in overtime, in Landmark Conference action Wednesday.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless first quarter, the Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute as junior forward Hanna Leto found the cage with an unassisted goal. Just 1:16 later, junior forward Bekkah Kehoe doubled the edge to 2-0 as she knocked in a pass from junior midfielder Sarah Bietka. The score remained 2-0 through the rest of the second quarter
  • The Blue Jays got onto the scoreboard in the 41st minute to cut the Moravian advantage to 2-1. However, it took the Blue & Grey just 52 seconds to retake a two-goal advantage as Kehoe scored off a pass from senior midfielder Emily Wells to make it 3-1 after 45 minutes of action
  • Elizabethtown cut the Greyhounds' lead to one goal again in the 55th minute on a penalty stroke, and the Blue Jays knotted the score at 3-3 in the 59th minute to force overtime
  • Senior midfielder Mackenzie Jakobsen netted the winning goal with 1:15 left in the first overtime off a pass from Bietka on a penalty corner for the Greyhounds 

Inside the Numbers

  • Leto netted her first goal of 2022 and the third of her career while Kehoe now was five goals this fall and nine in her Moravian career
  • Bietka registered her first and second assist sof the year and now has five in her career while Wells picked up her four assist of 2022 and the 17th of her career
  • Senior goalie Brooke Wilkinson recorded three saves in the match
  • The Greyhounds finished the contest with 18-9 advantage in shots and a 13-5 edge in penalty corners
