TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University field hockey team has had a pair student-athletes selected to the 2024 Landmark All-Conference Teams with junior forward Gia Ambrosino being named to the All-Conference First Team and senior midfielder Sydney Anderson making the All-Conference Second Team.
Moravian, led by fifth year Head Coach Sarah Dalrymple, who was in her fourth year on the field due to the pandemic, completed the year at 8-11 overall and 5-4 in Landmark Conference action while making the Landmark Conference Tournament for the fourth straight season and playing the Semifinals for a fourth consecutive fall. The fourth seeded Hounds defeated fifth seed Juniata College, 2-1 (3-2 in a shootout) in the Landmark Conference Tournament First Round before falling to top seed and eventual conference champion Susquehanna University, 2-0, in the Semifinals.
“We are extremely proud of both Gia and Sydney,” stated Dalrymple.
Ambrosino, who made the Landmark All-Conference Second Team a year ago, led the Hounds in scoring this season with 13 goals and three assists including five game-winning goals. Ambrosino has 21 goals and four assists with seven game-winning goals in 51 career matches for the Hounds.
“Gia is one of the most competitive athletes on our team with an incredible ability to score goals,” Dalrymple said. “She has grown significantly throughout her time at Moravian which has allowed her to stand out within the conference.”
Anderson, who garnered Landmark All-Conference First Team honors in 2021 and 2022 as a forward, had four goals and two assists to go with a game-winning goal and a pair of defensive saves this season after moving to midfielder. Anderson completed her career with 36 goals and 11 assists for 83 points to go with nine winning goals and two defensive saves in 72 career matches. Anderson ranks second in program history in goals and tied for third all-time in points.
“Sydney has been a tremendous asset to our program throughout her career,” noted Dalrymple. “She spent most of her time on the striker line transitioning to the midfield this season. Her experience on the forward line allowed her to be incredibly threatening and helped to generate a significant amount of attack.”
