Former Greyhound & Moravian Hall of Famer Brian Bergstol ’07 Wins 101st Philadelphia PGA Professional Championship

WILMINGTON, Del. --- Brian Bergstol, PGA, a 2007 Moravian University graduate and member of the Moravian Athletics Hall of Fame, won the 101st Philadelphia PGA Professional Championships at DuPont Country Club and Concord Country Club to lead 14 Section PGA Professionals to compete in the 2023 PGA Professional Championship, April 30-May 3, at Twin Warriors and Santa Ana Pueblo Golf Clubs in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.

Bergstol, who is the PGA professional at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort in Shawnee on the Delaware, posted a two-stroke victory in the three-round tournament as he carded rounds of 66-69-69 for a 204 to edge out Braden Shattuck, PGA, of Rolling Green Golf Club.

Bergstol was elected to PGA Membership on August 1, 2022 and has the chance to qualify for the 105th PGA Championship, May 15-21, 2023 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York depending on the results of the PGA Professional Championship next spring.

Bergstol was a four-year member of the golf squad with one of the best careers in school history. Bergstol holds the program record with a 75.4 stroke average for his career over 67.5 rounds, and he has three of the top four seasons in school history with averages of 71.93 strokes in 2007, 74.58 strokes in 2006 and 76.61 strokes in 2005. Bergstol was the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007 by winning the conference individual title, and he helped the 2006 squad capture the Commonwealth Conference Championship.

Bergstol, who was Moravian's Senior Male Athlete of the Year in 2007, was honored as a Ping Golf Coaches Association of America All-Middle Atlantic Region selection in each of his four seasons, and he was also selected as a Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Scholar-Athlete in 2007. A year after graduation, Bergstol qualified for the US Open at Torrey Pines in 2008.
