Greyhounds Run Past Bryn Athyn in Non-Conference Road Match

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team defeated Bryn Athyn College 21-6 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon to start a three-game road trip.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the first four goals of the contest, started by sophomore attack Brennan Fluehr who notched the first goal for the Blue and Grey, assisted by sophomore attack Trevor Dzama just 34 seconds into the match. Freshman midfielder Aaron Judge scored the second goal followed by two consecutive markers from Dzama before the Lions found their first of the afternoon. Judge scored his second of the game with 5:52 remaining in the first quarter and then Fluehr found the back of the net twice giving the Hounds a 7-1 lead after 15 minutes of play
  • The second quarter was all Moravian as the Hounds netted all five goals by three different scorers. Senior attack Connor James scored his first goal with 9:14 to play until the intermission, then senior attack Griffin LeBlond beat the Bryn Athyn goalie twice to extend the Moravian edge to 10-1 with under six minutes to play in the half. Freshman midfielder Nick Sullivan added a goal before James found the back of the net for the final time of the first half, leading the Lions 12-1
  • Bryn Athyn started the second half with a pair of goals, including a man-up goal, before the Greyhounds scored the next four goals of the third quarter. Dzama and James each found another marker before freshman attack Dan Kelly scored his first collegiate goal. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Matt Baer had his shot find the back of the net with just 18 seconds left in the third quarter to extend the Hounds' lead to 16-3
  • The Greyhounds tacked on five more goals in the fourth quarter while allowing three goals from Bryn Athyn in the final frame, giving Moravian a 21-6 victory

Inside the Numbers

  • Dzama and James led Moravian in scoring with four goals each, with Dzama totaling six points with two assists while James picked up a pair of ground balls
  • Fluehr finished the match with two goals, two assists for four total points and LeBlond added two goals and recorded four ground balls and one caused turnover. Judge found the back of the net twice in addition to his three ground balls
  • Five different Greyhounds scored once in the game as Baer earned four ground balls and a caused turnover while Sullivan contributed three ground balls to his goal. Kelly scored one goal while senior midfielder Zach Bergeron and sophomore midfielder Jack Swistak each scored a goal with Bergeron adding three ground balls and Swistak picking up one ground ball
  • Moravian used four different goalies in the match, with freshman Thomas Lee getting the start in net and he made three saves. Junior Sean DeMott made two saves on the two shots he faced as freshman Sean Boyer recorded three saves on six shots and sophomore Avery Napolitano also made three saves facing five shots. Lee earned his third victory of the season
  • Freshman Gannon Masko was 13-for-23 and picked up a team-high six ground balls while freshman midfielder Austin Hittle and sophomore defender Nick Walton each gathered three ground balls. Senior midfielder Ben Walek and freshman midfielder Kyle Weiss both scooped up two ground balls and Walek went 1-for-5 on face-offs and Fluehr was 1-for-1
  • Moravian picked up 44 ground balls to the Lions' 24 and the Greyhounds forced nine turnovers while Bryn Athyn had eight caused turnovers. The Hounds went 15-for-29 on face-offs while Bryn Athyn was 14-for-29 in the face-off circle
