INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Senior Jeffrey Algor of the Moravian College men's soccer team has methodically crept up the NCAA Division III statistic rankings thanks to his offensive contributions to the Greyhounds' 5-3-2 start to the 2013 season.
Algor is tied for 30th in the nation with eight goals, already a career-high for the senior striker. That total also leads all Landmark Conference goal scorers as the league enters the second weekend of its head-to-head schedule.
Algor has added two assists this season to bring his total point total to 18, with two points awarded for a goal and one for an assist. That mark is tied for 37th in Division III and is also tops in the Landmark Conference by six points.
"I've been very pleased with Jeff's scoring ability to date this year," said head coach Todd Ervin. "He is very focused and zeroed in on what he needs to do in order to find the back of the net and that has helped us out tremendously. Fortunately, we have a lot of quality in the midfield and those players have been able to find Jeff on many occasions and he's been able to slot the ball home quite often."
The senior's eight goals lead the Landmark Conference by two in front of Brian McGuiness of Scranton with six.
Algor will look to add to that total in the Greyhounds' next conference match on Saturday at The Catholic University of America. The match is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. after the women's game.
"I expect that he will be able to continue this streak in conference play, as it will be essential to our success moving forward," Ervin said.
