Mastro Wins Two Events to Lead Greyhounds at Elizabethtown Early Bird Opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team took third place of five schools in the Elizabethtown College Early Bird Opener Saturday as the Greyhounds began their 2021 season. The Hounds finished with 161 points while Susquehanna University was first with 179 points.

Event Winners

  • Senior Sean McFarland won the 200-meter dash in 22.55 seconds
  • McFarland ran the leadoff leg of Moravian's winning 4x400-meter relay team as he joined freshmen Lance BurrierMarco Calantoni and Matt Shea to post a time of 3:35.31
  • Junior Shane Houghton captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:03.32
  • Senior Shane Mastro won the hammer throw with a personel best toss of 44.26 meters (145-2), and he also captured the shot put with a toss of 14.39 meters (47-2.5)

Top 8 Scoring Finishes

  • Sophomore Ethan Cherubin took third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.61 seconds. Cherubin also took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.64 seconds
  • Shea took fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.23 seconds while Calantoni was seventh in 24.75 seconds and freshman Jared Santos finished eighth in 25.18 seconds
  • McFarland was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 52.00 seconds while Shea took fifth in 55.72 seconds, freshman Joshneil Ferguson placed sixth in 58.48 seconds, Burrier was seventh in 58.54 seconds and Calantoni took eighth in 58.61 seconds
  • Senior Peter Gingrich finished third in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:59.05
  • Junior Dominic DeRafelo finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:14.19
  • Junior Michael Lerch was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:42.87
  • Senior Derek Scott was third in the hammer at 41.71 meters (136-10) while sophomore Dan Jenkins finished fourth at 39.81 meters (130-7)
  • Jenkins was third in the shot at 11.67 meters (38-3.5) while Scott placed fifth with a toss of 11.20 meters (36-9)
  • Jenkins finished as the runner-up in the discus with a mark of 39.27 meters (128-10) while Scott was third at 27-87 meters (124-3), Mastro finished in fourth at 37.70 meters (123-8) and sophomore Adam Gildea was eighth at 32.72 meters (107-4)
  • Junior Max Schuman was third in the pole vault at a height of 4.10 meters (13-5.25), and he was third in the triple jump at 11.34 meters (37-2.5)
