Moravian Tops Six-Team Field at Coach P Invitational & Wins Eight Events

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team finished first of six teams at the Coach P Invitational hosted by the Greyhounds at Timothy Breidegam Track Saturday. The Hounds, who won eight events, scored 205 points to finish 68 points ahead of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

Event Winners

  • Freshman Matt Shea won the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.17 seconds
  • Junior Dominic DeRafelo captured first place in the 800-meter run in 2:02.43
  • Senior Peter Gingrich won the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:13.70
  • Junior Shane Houghton finished first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:26.82
  • Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of Shea, senior Sean McFarland, freshman Jared Santos and freshman Marco Calantoni was first in 43.85 seconds
  • The Greyhounds 4x400-meter B relay squad of DeRafelo, junior Brad Clemson, junior Richard Glennon and sophomore Liam Duffy won in a time of 3:34.73
  • Senior Shane Mastro captured the shot put with a toss of 14.59 meters (47-10.5), and he also won the discus with a toss of 43.36 meters (142-3)

Top 6 Scoring Finishes

  • McFarland placed third in the 100-meter dash finals in 11.37 seconds while Shea was fourth at 11.89 seconds and sophomore Ethan Cherubin was sixth in 12.57 seconds
  • Cherubin was also the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 53.74 seconds while freshman Lance Burrier placed fifth in 55.48 seconds and Calantoni took sixth in 55.60 seconds
  • Sophomore Darlyn Fermin took second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:06.21 while Clemson was third in 2:06.65 and freshman Paul Petre finished fifth in 2:20.79
  • DeRafelo was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run in 4:16.19 while Duffy was third in 4:18.45, freshman Jordan Ford finished fifth in 4:25.05 and sophomore Christian Jancsarics took sixth in 4:48.92
  • Junior Michael Lerch placed third in the 5,000-meter run in 16:43.15
  • Glennon was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:13.85
  • The Greyhounds "A" 4x400-meter relay squad of McFarland, Burrier, Calantoni and Shea was the runner-up in a time of 3:36.08
  • Sophomore Kyle Smilon was third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.99 meters (39-4)
  • Junior Tim King finished third in the shot put with a distance of 12.10 meters (39-8.5) while senior Derek Scott was fourth at 12.02 meters (39-5.25)
  • Scott would also finish fourth in the discus at 40.95 meters (134-4) while sophomore Dan Jenkins took fifth at 40.06 meters (131-5)
  • Mastro was the runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.92 meters (150-8) while Scott placed third at 43.16 meters (141-7), King took fourth at 41.53 meters (136-3) and Jenkins finished fifth at 40.65 meters (133-4)
  • Freshman Eric Keck placed fourth in the javelin with a mark of 41.51 meters (136-2)
