TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior sprinter Sean McFarland has been named as the Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

McFarland, who received his second Landmark Conference Weekly Honor of the spring, set a pair of PRs at the Juniata College Invitational. He captured first in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.42 seconds, and he also took first in the 400-meter dash in an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field qualifying time of 49.82 seconds. McFarland also ran a leg of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay that finished first in a time of 3:35.49

"One of the big sprint benchmarks at our level is sub 50 in the 400m," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "Sean has been trying ever since his freshman year when he nearly did it at Swarthmore late in the season, and a lot of the predictors were there for him. He has the requisite speed in the 200 which is often a predictor, and he just needed the right race. He had a good field to chase through about 275m and then on the homestretch he had the clock at the finish line to stare at and drive him to sub 50 for his first time ever. It was a cool moment since a lot of the team knew what it meant to him and as soon as the time was confirmed everyone came running over to him and you could feel the energy of the team lift at that point. He followed it up with another really close race in the 200m where he was contested through much of the race but kept his mechanics the last 50m to sustain a win and another lifetime best for him in the 200m."

The Hounds are scheduled to compete in the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Tune Up on Saturday, May 1 with events beginning at 10:30 a.m.
