No. 10 Greyhounds Sweep Susquehanna at Blue & Grey Field to Remain Unbeaten

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 10 Moravian College softball squad earned two more victories in Landmark Conference action Sunday at Blue & Grey Field as the Greyhounds defeated visiting Susquehanna University, 5-3 and 7-2, to remain undefeated on both conference action and overall.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The River Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning
  • The Hounds evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third when senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber connected on a two-out, RBI single
  • Moravian scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead when sophomore shortstop Alex Agrapides ripped a two-RBI single up the middle after a pair of errors by Susquehanna
  • The Greyhounds stretched their advantage to 5-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on RBI singles by senior first baseman Shannon Brogan and freshman designated player Emily Silberman
  • Susquehanna would score once in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-2, and the River Hawks scored one run in the top of the seventh before the contest ended
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel went the distance in the circle to improve to 8-0 on the year as she had four strikeouts and did not allow a walk 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when junior center fielder Cameron Cassidy was hit by a pitch to start the frame and eventually race home on a wild pitch with the bases loaded
  • The Greyhounds extended the edge to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run homer to left field by freshman second baseman Ajala Elmore, her first collegiate home run
  • The River Hawks broke through for a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it a one-run contest at 3-2
  • Moravian answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Agrapides drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the first run before junior right fielder Victoria Smith connected on a two-RBI single. Senior catcher Brooke Wehr drove in the final run with an RBI single
  • Senior Meghan Bauer tossed a complete game in the circle with a pair of strikeouts as she moved to 5-0 on the season

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 18 hits between the two games with Silberman going 5-for-6 with an RBI and a double
  • Smith and Wehr each had 3-for-7 days with Smith adding two RBIs and a double and Wehr driving in one run
  • Elmore was 2-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs on her homer while Brogan and Bieber each collected two hits
