No. 9 Hounds Complete Landmark Conference Series Sweep of Drew with Two More Victories on the Road

MADISON, N.J. --- The No. 9 Moravian College softball squad completed its four-game Landmark Conference series sweep of Drew University, winning the two road games in New Jersey on Thursday by scores of 8-0 and 8-1 as the Greyhounds improved to 22-0 overall this spring.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from senior catcher Brooke Wehr
  • Moravian doubled the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second on an RBI sacrifice fly by freshman designated player Ajala Elmore
  • The Greyhounds added two more runs in the top of the third frame as junior first baseman Alexandria Scheeler and senior second baseman Shannon Brogan had RBI singles
  • The Blue and Grey finished off the scoring in the opener with four runs in the seventh inning. Sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides connected on a solo home run, her third homer of the season, while senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber had an RBI single. Scheeler drove in a run with an RBI ground out while Brogan ripped another RBI single
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel is now 10-0 in the circle after her third shutout of the spring. Hummel scattered two hits and two walks while striking out five for the victory 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Greyhounds would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when freshman designated player Emily Silberman connected on an RBI single
  • The Blue and Grey expanded the advantage to 3-0 with two runs in the top of the third on an RBI triple from Wehr and an RBI ground out by Bieber
  • Silberman connected on an RBI double in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-0 edge for the Hounds
  • Moravian tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth for an 8-0 lead. Agrapides started the scoring with an RBI single while junior right fielder Victoria Smith added a two-RBI single and Scheeler had an RBI double
  • Drew scored its lone run of the doubleheader in the bottom of the sixth inning
  • Scheeler improved to 6-0 in the circle this spring as she allowed a run on eight hits and no walks to go with four strikeouts

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 25 hits on the afternoon with Agrapides going 5-for-8 with four runs, two RBIs, a double and a homer. Brogan was 4-for-6 with two RBIs while Scheeler was 4-for-7 with three RBIs, two runs and two doubles
  • Smith and senior left fielder Maura Kane were both 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with Smith scoring twice and driving in two runs. Wehr contributed two hits, three RBIs and three runs while Silberman had two hits and two RBIs and Bieber drove in two runs
  • The Greyhounds have outscored their Landmark Conference opponents, 113-42, through 18 games this spring
