No. 9 Hounds Cap Undefeated Regular Season with Sweep of Elizabethtown on Senior Day & Set Program Record with 30th Consecutive Win

Prior to the first game versus Elizabethtown College on May 2, 2021 at Blue & Grey Field, the Greyhounds honored their three graduating seniors in the Class of 2021 – Meghan Bauer, Shannon Brogan and Maura Kane - as well as the four seniors in the Class of 2020 – Lauren Goetz, Paige Lesher, Samantha O’Keefe and Emily Stanilious – who missed out on Senior Day last spring as the pandemic cancelled the season after just 10 games.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 9 Moravian College softball team swept Elizabethtown College for the second straight day, defeating the Blue Jays, 4-1 and 8-3, on Senior Day at Blue & Grey Field on Sunday to finish the 2021 regular season with an undefeated record of 26-0. The victories also gave Moravian a program-record 30 straight wins including the final four contests of the 2020 campaign.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when freshman designated player Emily Silberman hit an RBI single
  • Elizabethtown answered with a run in the top of the third inning to knot the score at 1-1
  • The Blue & Grey took the lead right back with two runs in the home half of the third on an RBI groundout from senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber and an RBI single by freshman designated player Ajala Elmore
  • Moravian added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by junior first baseman Alexandria Scheeler
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel earned her 12th win of the season in the circle as she picked up three strikeouts 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Hounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the final contest of the regular season on an RBI single from junior center fielder Cameron Cassidy and an RBI fielder's choice by sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides
  • Moravian added six runs in the bottom of the third to make the edge 6-0. Elmore connected on a two-RBI triple while Bieber had an RBI double and Agrapides contributed an RBI sacrifice fly
  • The Blue Jays got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth
  • The Blue and Grey answered right back with an RBI double from Elmore as the lead went to 7-1
  • Elizabethtown added two unearned runs in the top half of the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-3
  • The Greyhounds then scored the final run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Agrapides
  • Scheeler improved to 7-0 in the circle as she recorded three strikeouts in five innings, and senior Meghan Bauer had a pair of strikeouts in two innings of work 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 24 hits in the doubleheader with senior left fielder Maura Kane going 4-for-6 with a run and a double. Senior catcher Brooke Wehr was 4-for-8 with a run and a double while senior second baseman Shannon Brogan was 4-for-7 with two runs
  • Elmore finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs, a double and a triple while Scheeler was 3-for-7 with three runs, an RBI and a double. Silberman was 2-for-2 while junior right fielder Victoria Smith had a pair of hits and Bieber had two RBIs and two runs
