TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan has been named the Landmark Conference Softball Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
Morgan led No. 23 Moravian at the plate with a .571 average (8-for-14) as the Greyhounds went 6-0 during the week. Morgan also recorded six runs, a triple, four RBIs, a .714 slugging percentage, a .600 on-base percentage and six stolen bases to go with three putouts in three chances in the field. Morgan hit safely in all six games last week, and she currently has an eight-game hitting streak. Morgan has stolen at least one base in each of the last five games for the Hounds.
"Shayla had an outstanding week, both offensively and defensively," stated Head Coach Josh Baltz. "She has the ability to exploit a defense in multiple ways, and we saw that in action this week. When she's on the bases, she draws significant attention, creating opportunities for us to push runs across. I'm excited to see her continue driving extra-base hits with her power slap—and watching her RUN!!"
The Hounds are set to return to action on Wednesday, April 2 when the team hosts Drew University in a Landmark Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Blue & Grey Field.
