Greyhounds Top Lebanon Valley in Final Game of 18th Steel Club Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first quarter and went on to post a 44-33 victory over visiting Lebanon Valley College in the final game of the 18th Steel Club Classic in Johnston Hall Monday afternoon. 

How It Happened

  • The Flying Dutchmen scored the opening points of the game, just seconds into action, but Lebanon Valley would not score again until the 2:08 mark. During that stretch, junior guard Madison Amy hit a three-pointer, sophomore forward Sam Osorio had a basket and sophomore forward Gracie Hezel added a lay-up as the Greyhounds pulled out to a 7-2 edge. Senior forward Kayla Yoegel connected on a bucket in the final minute of the period as the Hounds led 11-7 after 10 minutes of action
  • Moravian had a 13-8 advantage after a lay-up from Osorio at the 9:09 mark of the second quarter; however, LVC came back and knotted the score at 15-15. Osorio had the Blue and Grey ahead 19-17 in the final minute of the half before a late jumper from the Flying Dutchmen sent the teams to the locker room tied at 19-19
  • Osorio connected on a lay-up for the first points of the third quarter, but Lebanon Valley scored four straight points to take its first lead at 23-21. The Flying Dutchmen led 25-23 before an 8-0 run by Moravian capped by a lay-up from Yoegel had the Greyhounds in the lead for good at 31-25. Osorio hit a lay-up just as the third quarter ended to extend the Hounds' edge to double digits at 39-29 after 30 minutes of play
  • Madison Amy hit a jumper for the first points of the fourth quarter, and Moravian led by as many as 13 points at 44-31 after a three-point play from freshman forward Brielle Guarente. The squads combined for just nine points in the final 10 minutes 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds had one player in double digits as Osorio netted 18 points to go with six rebounds and a pair of steals as she was selected to the All-Tournament Team
  • Yoegel tied her career high with 11 rebounds to help Moravian to a 43-35 advantage on the boards, and Yoegel netted eight points
  • Hezel finished with six points and five rebounds while Madison Amy and Guarente each had five points, two rebounds and a pair of assists
  • Junior guard Morgan Amy dished out eight assists to go along with five rebounds and two points while junior guard Jackie Kelly and junior guard Ashley Robinson both had three rebounds
  • The Hounds forced the Flying Dutchmen into 18 turnovers while committing just 13 miscues. Moravian also committed just seven fouls, the first time this winter that the Greyhounds have been called for fewer than 15 fouls in a contest
