SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad raced out to a first quarter lead and posted a 61-49 Landmark Conference road victory at Susquehanna University Wednesday evening.
How It Happened
- The River Hawks netted the first two points of the contest before senior forward Kayla Yoegel hit a jumper and a three-pointer to put the Greyhounds in front, 5-2, as she gave the Blue and Grey the lead for the rest of the night. Susquehanna cut the deficit to one point twice while the Hounds had a six-point edge, 13-7, after a jumper from junior guard Morgan Amy, and Amy hit a buzzer beating jumper to end the quarter as Moravian led 17-12 after 10 minutes of action
- The Greyhounds scored the first five points of the second quarter with sophomore forward Sam Osorio pushing the advantage into double digits at 22-12 with 7:44 until halftime. Moravian's lead reached 15 points at 29-14 when Yoegel connected on a lay-up with 2:34 on the clock, and the Blue and Grey headed to the locker room with a 31-19 edge
- Junior guard Madison Amy started the second half with a jumper. The River Hawks pulled within nine points on two occasions, the second time at 40-31 with 3:06 left in the quarter. The Hounds answered with a 7-0 run to push the lead to 16 points at 47-31 after a Yoegel jumper, and Moravian had a 47-33 edge after 30 minutes of play
- The Greyhounds' advantage would get to as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter with a jumper from Morgan Amy putting the Blue and Grey up 57-37 with just under six minutes to play
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had just one player in double figures with Yoegel netting 16 points to go with three rebounds. Junior forward Emily Markowski added nine points, four rebounds and a pair of assists while both Madison Amy and Morgan Amy each scored eight points with Morgan contributing seven rebounds and five assists and Madison adding six rebounds and four assists
- Osorio had eight rebounds, seven points, four steals and a pair of assists while freshman guard Brielle Guarente tossed in six points to go with four rebounds
- Junior guard Ashley Robinson had five points and a pair of rebounds while sophomore forward Gracie Hezel added two points and two boards
- The Greyhounds forced the River Hawks into 18 turnovers while committing 16 miscues
- The Hounds shot 52 percent (13-for-25) in the second half and 44.8 percent (26-for-58) for the night while Susquehanna was just 18-for-65 (27.7 percent) in the contest
