Moravian Drops First Match of 2021, Falling to No. 8 Catholic on John Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse dropped its first match of the 2021 season as the Greyhounds fell to No. 8 The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Monday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals scored the first eight goals of the contest before Moravian got on the scoreboard on a goal from junior attack Eliza Fantazzi. Senior defender Olivia Clearie scored three of the next six goals as the Blue and Grey closed within 10-5 before Catholic netted the final two goals of the first half to lead 12-5 at the intermission
  • The Cardinals scored three more goals to start the second half to push their lead into double digits before Clearie netter her fourth goal
  • Monday evening was Moravian's annual Multiple Sclerosis Awareness match with both teams wearing orange scrunchies and masks. Donations to the MS Foundation can be made on the team's Instagram account at @moravianwlax

Inside the Numbers

  • Clearie's four goals were a career-high, and she also added four draw controls
  • Sophomore attack Devin King had one goal and an assist while Fantazzi, sophomore midfielder Emily Hoskin, junior midfielder Lindsey Strohl and senior attack Danielle Sullivan each scored once.
  • Strohl had four draw controls in the match with junior defender Samantha Cherenson added three draws
  • Sophomore goalie Brelyn Friedman registered 12 saves for the Greyhounds to go with a team-high four ground balls
