Greyhounds Earn First Postseason Victory in Program History with Landmark Conference Quarterfinal Win over Elizabethtown

BETHLEHEM Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team earned the first postseason victory in program history Saturday evening as the third seeded Greyhounds defeated sixth seed Elizabethtown College, 15-12, in a Landmark Conference Quarterfinal match on John Makuvek Field.

How It Happened

  • The Blue Jays scored the opening goal before sophomore midfielder Emily Hoskin got the Hounds on the scoreboard. Senior midfielder Meaghan McMullan scored and Hoskin would net another goal as the Greyhounds took a 3-1 lead. After Elizabethtown netted a goal to pull within on, Moravian ran off four straight scores with a goal from sophomore attack Megan Donnelly making it a 7-2 lead with 15:36 to play in the first half
  • Junior midfielder Lindsey Strohl netted her first goal of the evening at the 11:41 mark but that would be the Hounds' last goal of the half as the Blue Jays scored four straight goals to pull within 8-7 at the intermission
  • Elizabethtown netted the first goal of the second half to knot the score at 8-8 just 1:10 into the half. However, 48 seconds later, Moravian junior attack Eliza Fantazzi put Moravian back ahead. The Blue Jays would tie the game again at 10-10 before an eight-meter goal from McMullan with 18:57 to go would put the Hounds on top for the remainder of the match 

Inside the Numbers

  • Hoskin led the Blue and Grey with four goals and an assist to go with three ground balls while McMullan contributed three goals, eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. Donnelly added two goals, an assist, four caused turnovers and three ground balls while Fantazzi netted two goals
  • Senior attack Danielle Sullivan had a goal and two assists while Strohl contributed a goal, an assist and nine draw controls. Senior attack Breanna Federico and sophomore attack Devin King each scored once
  • Junior defender Meghan Moore had four ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior defender Samantha Cherenson scooped up three ground balls and junior defender Eirean Perst caused three turnovers
  • Sophomore goalie Brelyn Friedman had five saves in 46 minutes of action while sophomore goalie Rylee Soltis made three saves in the final 14 minutes of the match
  • The Greyhounds were playing in the postseason for the fourth time in program history and the first time at home
