Hounds Top Second Seed Goucher in 2022 Landmark Conference Semifinals to Advance

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The third seeded Moravian University women's tennis squad topped second seed and host Goucher College, 5-2, in a Landmark Conference Semifinal match Tuesday afternoon as the Greyhounds advance to the 2022 Landmark Conference Championship match, the Hounds' third straight berth in the title contest. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds took an early lead and swept the doubles matches for a 3-0 edge. Juniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone opened the contest with an 8-6 win at second doubles. Senior Morgan Colver and junior Julianne Cassady recorded an 8-5 victory at first doubles while sophomore Mara Stapleton and freshman Rose Lombardo completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-5 triumph at third doubles
  • The Gophers began singles with a win at first singles to earn their first point of the afternoon before Figiel earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory at third singles to push Moravian's advantage to 4-1. Goucher posted a win at second singles while Merone recorded the winning team point with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at fourth singles to complete the match. Stapleton had begun the third set of her sixth singles contest and Lombardo was still on the courts in fifth singles when the Greyhounds advanced
  • The Blue and Grey enter Saturday looking for their third straight and sixth overall Landmark Conference Championship since the conference began in 2007-08 with the Hounds making their seventh trip to the Landmark Conference final. Moravian has won a total of 13 conference titles in program history
  • Drew advances to the championship match with a 5-3 victory over fourth seed The University of Scranton
