Dreisbach Reaches 1,000 Digs as Hounds Fall to Scranton in Five Sets on Senior Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team fell to visiting The University of Scranton, 3-2, in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Night in Johnston Hall. 

How It Happened

  • The Royals jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening set before the Blue and Grey came back to knot the score at 4-4. Scranton answered with a short run to build and 8-5 edge but Moravian kept closing the score, eventually tying the set at 18-18. Trailing 21-20, junior libero Gabby Mancini served four straight points to put the Greyhounds ahead 24-21, and Moravian won the set 25-22
  • The Hounds scored the first two points of the second set before Scranton ran off seven straight points. Moravian closed the game to a point at 15-14 before eventually knotting the score at 20-20. However, the Royals scored the final five points to take the game 25-20
  • The third set went back-and-forth early before five straight service points from senior outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach had Moravian leading 11-5. The Hounds would maintain at least a two-point lead throughout the rest of the set, winning 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead
  • Scranton controlled the fourth set early, rolling out to a 14-3 lead and taking the set 25-11 to even the match at 2-2 and force the fifth set
  • Once again, the Royals jumped out to a lead and were up 6-2 in the final set. The Greyhounds closed within two points at 10-8 before Scranton won the set 15-9

Inside the Numbers

  • Dreisbach led Moravian with 14 kills, and she added a pair of service aces and 24 digs to become the 14th player in program history to reach 1,000 digs in a career. Dreisbach's milestone dig came early in the fourth set
  • Senior outside hitter Sela Herber contributed 10 kills, 15 digs and two blocks while senior middle blocker Renee Mapa had eight kills and four blocks in the final home match of her career
  • Freshmen middle blockers Kerry Dillon and Jenna Deegan each had five kills with Deegan adding four blocks and Dillon making three blocks
  • Junior setter Natalia Matos paced Moravian with 29 assists to go with 15 digs and four kills while Mancini had 19 digs and four assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Kat DeYesso added 15 digs and a pair of service aces
