Moravian's Cooper & Morgan Amy Named to Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization Scholar-Athlete Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior Danny Cooper and junior Morgan Amy of the Moravian University basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2021-22 season.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the six small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Moravian University and Muhlenberg College.

Amy, a junior guard for the Greyhounds, has helped the Moravian women to a 4-9 record including a 2-0 slate in Landmark Conference action. This winter, she has a team-high 63 assists against just 27 turnovers while playing a team-high 390 minutes, and Amy also leads the squad with 22 steals to go along with 60 points, 32 rebounds and six three-pointers. Amy, who was named to the 2021 Landmark All-Conference Second team, has 240 points, 124 rebounds, 172 assists, 54 steals, 23 three-pointers and 15 blocked shots in 48 games at Moravian, and she is maintaining a 3.86 GPA while majoring in economics.

"Morgan Amy is the epitome of a student athlete," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She excels on the court as a three-year starter, captain and glue for our team chemistry. And Morgan excels in the classroom as evidence of her 4.0 GPA this last semester and 3.86 GPA overall for her career. Morgan is a natural leader and sets high standards for her teammates on and off the court. She is self-motivated on the basketball court and in the classroom. This is a most deserving honor for Morgan, and I look forward to continued success for Morgan through this season and beyond."

Joining Amy on the Scholar-Athlete Team were Tori Dowd of Muhlenberg, Averi Jordan of DeSales, Ryan Weise of East Stroudsburg, Ashley Wilson of Cedar Crest and Annie Whalen of Kutztown.

Cooper, a senior guard, has been an important starter for the Greyhounds this season, helping Moravian to a 5-6 overall mark and a 1-1 slate in Landmark Conference action. He is one of three Hounds netting 13.6 points per game this winter, and he also tops the squad with 19 three-pointers, 15 steals and 41 assists against 21 turnovers in 351 minutes of action to go along with 51 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Cooper, who is in his first year with the Greyhounds and as a collegiate basketball player, is majoring in sports management while earning a 3.12 GPA.

"Danny is a senior captain for the Moravian Men's Basketball team, and he earned a 3.25 GPA this semester and is a Sports Management major," commented Interim Head Coach Mike Frew. "Danny is a consummate student-athlete at Moravian and can be found in the gym shooting or on campus studying for upcoming assignments. He is an avid NFT collector and reader. His plans after Moravian are to continue to grow his company Danny Cooper Basketball."

Joining Cooper on the Scholar-Athlete Team were Nate Henty Brown of Muhlenberg, Dat Lambert of DeSales, David Duda, Jr. of East Stroudsburg and Kyree Generett of Kutztown.

The next Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15 at 11:30 a.m., where the LVSCBO 2022 Team and the Pete Nevins Player of the Year awards will be announced. The hosting of the luncheon will be dependent on current COVID-19 protocols and surge at the time with January's scheduled Scholar-Athlete Luncheon being canceled.
