Top 10 Exciting Games of 2021-22 – No. 7 Field Hockey Tops Undefeated Scranton by a Goal

Field hockey celebrates a goal versus Scranton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing to look back at its 2021-22 athletic campaign. The next contest in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 7 highlight – the field hockey team defeating undefeated The University of Scranton, 2-1, on October 23 while celebrating Senior Day.

The win was the eighth straight for the Greyhounds, tying the program record set in 1992 for the longest winning streak in school history. Moravian went on to capture 10 straight wins and finish the season with a 14-3 record, a program best in victories. The Hounds also made the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time and hosted a semifinal contest as the top seed in the tournament with the victory over the Royals giving the Blue and Grey the tiebreaker.

After a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds struck twice in the third quarter for a 2-0 edge. Sophomore defender Onalee Long opened the scoring in the 38th minute with her first career goal while senior forward Ava Edwards found the cage in the 41st minute for her 16th goal of the season.

Scranton made it a one-goal match with eight and a half minutes to play in the fourth quarter, but Moravian's defense led by seven saves from junior goalie Brooke Wilkinson would not allow another goal to earn the victory. The triumph was the first for the Hounds over the Royals since 2011.
