BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing to look back at its 2021-22 athletic campaign. The next contest in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 6 highlight – the softball squad scoring five runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to post an 8-7 win over Wartburg (Iowa) College at the PFX Spring Games in Florida on February 28.

The triumph was the fourth straight for the Greyhounds to begin the 2022 season and was part of the Hounds' 12-0 start to the spring.

Moravian took an early 1-0 lead in the game on an RBI single by freshman first baseman Lindsey Gawrys in the first inning. The Blue and Grey stretched the advantage to 3-0 in the fourth inning on the first collegiate home run for freshman pitcher Madi Cunningham.

Wartburg answered with a run in the sixth frame and two more runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. With the contest being played as part of the season-opening PFX Spring Games, the contest immediately went to the international tiebreaker in the eighth inning as both squads started with a runner on second base; however, neither team scored in the eighth or ninth. Wartburg would strike for four runs in the top of the tenth to build a 7-3 lead.

The Greyhounds countered in the bottom of the tenth with five runs for the win. Gawrys plated the first two runs of the inning with her first career home run before a passed ball allowed senior centerfielder Cameron Cassidy to score. Cunningham knotted the score at 7-7 with an RBI single while sophomore second baseman Ajala Elmore raced home with the winning run on an error.
