Top 10 Exciting Games of 2021-22 – No. 5 Football Rallies from 10-0 Deficit in Fourth Quarter for Overtime Win at Gettysburg

Nate Boyle scores overtime winning touchdown at Gettysburg

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing to look back at its 2021-22 athletic campaign. The next contest in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 5 highlight – the football team rallying from a 10-0 deficit to start the fourth quarter in a 16-13 overtime win at Gettysburg College.

The victory was the first of the fall for the Greyhounds as the squad began its Centennial Conference scheduled. The win improved Moravian to 8-3 all-time in overtime contests since the NCAA started the rule in 1996. The Blue and Grey would end up playing another overtime game later in the season, which has already been featured in the Top 10 Exciting Games of 2021-22. After a scoreless first quarter, the Bullets scored a touchdown and a field goal in a span of just over three minutes in the second quarter to head to the intermission leading 10-0.

Neither team scored in the third quarter as well while both squads had opportunities to score throughout the game. The Greyhounds missed a field goal on their opening drive of the afternoon and were also intercepted in the end zone three times. The Bullets missed a pair of field goals in the second half.

Moravian finally got on the scoreboard with 10:16 left in the fourth quarter when junior Trevor Yacuboski connected on a 24-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 10-3. Gettysburg drove 68 yards and took nearly eight minutes off the clock but missed on its field goal attempt with 2:21 remaining.

The Greyhounds began at their own 24-yard line and lost 11 yards on the first play. Senior quarterback Chris Mills then covered 87 yards in 13 plays, hitting senior wide receiver Trevor Cunningham in the end zone with a three-yard touchdown pass as time expired. Yacuboski converted the extra-point to force overtime.

Gettysburg had the ball first in the extra session but the Blue and Grey's defense yielded just six yards as the Bullets settled for a 36-yard field goal to take a 13-10 lead.

Moravian needed just three plays to win the contest. Mills connected with Cunningham on a 23-yard pass to open the possession, then sophomore running back Nate Boyle had a pair of one-yard runs, the second putting him in the end zone for the victory.
