Amy & Santiago Named to Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior Morgan Amy and sophomore Nate Santiago of the Moravian University basketball teams have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2022-23 season.

The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the six small college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III schools Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Moravian University and Muhlenberg College.

Amy, a senior guard for the Greyhounds, has helped the Moravian women to an 11-9 record including a 4-5 slate in Landmark Conference action. This winter, she has a team-high 95 assists against just 49 turnovers while playing a team-leading 590 minutes, and Amy also has 110 points, 45 rebounds, 27 steals and 13 three-pointers this year. Amy, who was named to the 2021 Landmark All-Conference Second Team, has 443 points, 211 rebounds, 323 assists which ranks fifth in school history, 99 steals, 44 three-pointers and 17 blocked shots in 80 games with 79 starts at Moravian, and she is maintaining a 3.85 GPA while majoring in economics.

"Morgan Amy has exemplified what a student athlete means over the course of her four years at Moravian and with the basketball team," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She is a tremendous leader on and off the court and in the classroom. Morgan has always placed basketball first on her priority checklist. She also realizes that basketball is also an important part of her growth and development as a person. She is most deserving of this honor as a member of the Lehigh Valley Scholar-Athlete team. Congratulations to Morgan on this impressive recognition."

Joining Amy on the Scholar-Athlete Team are Abigail Scheidel of Muhlenberg, Grace Kelleher of DeSales, Ryan Weise of East Stroudsburg, Kaylen Ledford of Cedar Crest and Annie Whalen of Kutztown.

Santiago, a sophomore forward, has been an important starter for the Greyhounds this season, helping Moravian to a 7-13 overall mark and a 4-5 slate in Landmark Conference action. He is averaging 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this winter to go along with 16 assists, nine three-pointers, eight steals and seven blocked shots in 377 minutes of action with 16 starts. In his career, Santiago has contributed 239 points, 215 rebounds, 37 assists, 21 three-pointers, 21 steals and 17 blocked shots in 42 games with 38 starts. Santiago is majoring in sports management while earning a 3.45 GPA.

"Nate is a great young man that represents everything positive about being a student-athlete at Moravian," commented Head Coach Darryl Keckler. "We are proud to have Nate represent our program on and off the court. He is a developing leader that gives his best in everything he does."

Joining Santiago on the Scholar-Athlete Team are Tommy McGuire of Muhlenberg, Will Pollick of DeSales, David Duda Jr. of East Stroudsburg and Kyree Generett of Kutztown.

The next Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, February 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the DeSales University Center where the LVSCBO 2023 Team of the Year and the Pete Nevins Player of the Year awards will be announced.
