Top 10 Games of 2022-23 - #7 Women’s Basketball Tops Nationally Ranked Elizabethtown

Women's basketball celebrates win over Elizabethtown College.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing to look back at its 2022-23 athletic campaign. The next event in the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year is our No. 7 highlight – the women's basketball squad defeating nationally-ranked Elizabethtown College, 75-70, in Johnston Hall.

The game was played on Saturday, February 4, and the contest was the first time in her 36 seasons as Head Coach that Mary Beth Spirk was not on the sideline for the game with assistant coach Amy Endler '93 guiding the squad for the afternoon.

The Blue Jays had an early lead in the first quarter before a 7-0 run had Moravian leading 8-6. Elizabethtown hit a buzzer beater to end the period with a 15-14 edge. The second quarter saw each team make runs with the Greyhounds going on a pair of 9-2 stretches to head to the locker room with a 38-30 advantage.

The Blue Jays began the second half with a 13-4 run to move back ahead, 43-42, while graduate student Kayla Yoegel hit a three-pointer to give the Blue & Grey a 58-57 lead heading to the final quarter. The back-and-forth runs between the squads continued in the final period with the game tied at 70-70 with 1:51 remaining. The Hounds' defense would not allow another point while senior guard Morgan Amy connected on four free throws and junior forward Sam Osorio made one foul shot to give Moravian the win.

The Greyhounds had three players in double digits on the afternoon led by graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi, who recorded her 15th double-double of the season that included a career-best 27 points in a Greyhound uniform and 11 rebounds. Amy contributed in 14 points to go with seven assists and a pair of boards while Osorio added 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
