Moravian Falls at Elizabethtown to Open Landmark Conference Series

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team fell to host Elizabethtown College, 7-2, in the opening game of a Landmark Conference series Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning
  • Elizabethtown added a run in the fifth inning and three more tallies in the in sixth frame to extend the advantage to 7-0
  • The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-1. Graduate student Paul Hamilton doubled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an RBI groundout by freshman right fielder Jared Ferguson
  • The Blue & Grey scored again in the top of the ninth as graduate student designated hitter Chris Pow led off with a double down the left field line before racing home on an RBI single from senior first baseman Cole Cherkas 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six hits in the contest with Pow going 2-for-4 with a double and a run
  • Ferguson and Cherkas each had a hit and an RBI while Hamilton and senior catcher Connor Wengryn both had one hit
  • Freshman Andrew Benvenuto started on the mound for the Blue & Grey, and he tossed 3.1 innings with three runs on two hits and six walks. Freshman Antorius Cofield pitched 1.2 innings, and he allowed a run on two hits and a walk to go with one strikeout. Sophomore Stefano Garofalo tossed the final three innings with three unearned runs on a hit and a walk to go along with three strikeouts
