BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University field hockey team moved into sole possession of fourth place in the Landmark Conference standings with a 4-0 shutout of visiting Elizabethtown College on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard in the ninth minute as senior midfielder Sarah Bietka knocked in a pass from senior defender Onalee Long on a penalty corner
- Moravian held the 1-0 advantage throughout the rest of the first half
- The Hounds put in three goals in the third quarter to push the lead to 4-0. Long opened the half with a goal off a feed from senior defender Jenna Segrave on another penalty corner just two and a half minutes into the period
- The Blue & Grey stretched the edge to 3-0 in the 39th minute of action as sophomore forward Brooke Sodl put the ball in the cage
- The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with 1:36 left in the third quarter as Bietka deposited a short pass from Segrave in the goal
Inside the Numbers
- Bietka's two goals give her four for the season and 12 in her career, and it was her fourth career game-winning goal
- Long recorded her third goal and second assists of 2023 to give her six goals and seven assists in her career while Segrave earned her first two assists of the season and has three in her career
- Sodl netted her first goal of the year and three of her career
- Freshman goalie Maia Machado registered seven saves in her shutout of the season
- Junior midfielder Savannah Sutter made her first defensive save of the fall and the second of her career
- Both squads took 11 shots in the match with the Hounds holding a 14-9 advantage in penalty corners
