Moravian Falls to Cabrini in 37th Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead but a second half spurt led Cabrini University to a 90-74 victory over the Hounds in the second round of the 37th Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Classic in Johnston Hall Saturday evening.

The Greyhounds end 2016 with an 8-4 overall record and 1-0 in Landmark Conference action heading into the final 13 conference games of the season beginning in January.

"I thought we played well and got off to a good start," stated Head Coach Justin Potts. "Cabrini did a good job settling in after that and played their game. We didn't do a good job consistently executing at both ends after doing it in the beginning of the contest. I think these kinds of games help us, and playing good teams out of conference prepares us for as we return to Landmark action next weekend."

Senior forward Brandon McGuire was named to the All-Tournament Team Saturday after scoring a team-high 21 points to go with eight rebounds and a pair of assists versus Cabrini. McGuire moved into 17th in school history with 1,083 points, and he is ninth all-time with 620 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Oneil Holder was also selected to the All-Tournament Team after his first double-double of the season and the sixth of his career with 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots. Sophomore guard Jimmy Murray added nine point and three boards while senior guard Sean Hanna and sophomore forward Jake McGee each had six points with McGee pulling down four rebounds.

Freshman forward John Hargraves contributed five points and three rebounds while senior guard Isaiah Jennings had five assists, three boards and two points for Moravian. Sophomore guard Nicholas Casazza and junior guard Matt Cardonne both had three points while freshman guard Tyron Brown had his first career points as a Greyhound.

The Hounds jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on baskets by Murray and McGuire, and Moravian led 11-2 after a lay-up by Holder at the 16:43 mark. The Blue and Grey eventually pushed the lead to 13 points, 21-8, on a free throw from Hargraves with 12:55 remaining in the first half but a 10-0 run by the Cavaliers cut the lead to 21-18 just two minutes later.

McGuire pushed the lead back to eight points, 28-20, with a three-pointer at 8:27. The Cavaliers scored 16 of the next 21 points to take a 35-34 lead with 4:31 before the intermission. Cardonne would get the Blue and Grey the edge back right back with a three-pointer. Moravian led until the 1:10 mark, and a jumper by Murray with 11 seconds left sent the Greyhounds and the Cavaliers to the locker room tied at 46-46 after 20 minutes of action.

McGuire scored to open the second half as Moravian moved ahead, and the Greyhounds were up 52-48 after a pair of free throws by Holder at the 18:02 mark. The Hounds had a 54-52 advantage after a jumper from Holder at 16:32 but a 12-0 run by the Cavaliers gave Cabrini control of the game. Hanna had Moravian within seven points, 64-57, after a free throw with 10:05 on the clock but that would as close as the Greyhounds could get.

Cabrini's Tyheim Monroe was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player while Deryl Bagwell of Cabrini, Justin Porter from Montclair State University and Othniel Nyamekye from Penn State Lehigh Valley joined McGuire and Holder on the All-Tournament Team.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 7, 2017 when the squad returns to Landmark Conference play in a game at Susquehanna University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
