SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad led by seven points, 23-16, with just under six minutes remaining in the first half; however, the Greyhounds saw the lead slip away, eventually suffering an 82-68 setback to host The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds scored the first four points of the game on lay-ups from senior guard Danny Cooper and freshman forward Nate Santiago. After the Royals took a 7-6 lead, freshman forward Antonio Montgomery hit a lay-up to give the lead right back to Moravian. The Blue and Grey were up 13-9 before Scranton knotted the score at 13-13 at the 11:00 mark
  • Sophomore forward Mike DiPietro added a lay-up as the Greyhounds retook the lead, and a jumper from sophomore guard Alex Dietz put Moravian up 23-16 with 5:41 until the intermission. However, the Hounds netted just two points the rest of the half, and a 15-2 run from the Royals had Scranton leading 31-25 heading to the locker room
  • Dietz and Santiago hit shots to start the second half as the Blue and Grey closed within two points at 31-29 but that would be as close as Moravian could get. The Greyhounds made it a 48-42 contest on a pair of free throws from Dietz with 13:14 remaining before Scranton went on a 10-1 run to push the lead above nine points for the rest of the night

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds had three players in double figures with Cooper netting a game and career high 21 points to go along with five rebounds. Dietz finished with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals while Santiago added 11 points and four boards
  • DiPietro contributed seven points and three rebounds while junior guard Nate Dougherty and sophomore guard C.J. Weber each scored five points with Dougherty grabbing four rebounds and Weber adding two boards and a pair of assists
  • Montgomery had four points had three rebounds while freshman guard/forward Michael Leonardo pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to go with two points and two steals
  • Moravian finished with a 38-28 advantage on the glass, just the seventh time the Hounds have outrebounded an opponent, and the Blue and Grey fall to 5-2 in those games
